Kathmandu, Nepal, March 21, 2010: A last tribute was given to the Ex Prime Ministers Grija Prasad Koirala with state honor highlighting his contributions toward the nation and his political career. Grija who was 87, died on March 20, 2010, at 12:10 PM due to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases. In his long political career of six decades, he stood as Prime Minister for 5 times where he was thought to be one of the people’s popular choices. His body was kept at Dasharath Rangashala, Tripureshwar for local audience and was later cremated at Pashupatinath Aryaghat. Fighting against the Monarchism in 1990, Grija Prasad Koirala was one of the main leaders of the revolution that out-casted the Panchayat system and established the glory of Democracy in Nepal. His roles and contributions in Nepal’s political history is very potent showcasing his dedication and devotion of his life where he faced innumerable exiles and Imprisonment at different intervals of time. More o r less his role in signing the Peace Treaty 2006 with the Maoist and bringing them in main stream politics, drafting the Interim Constitution, holding the first Constituent Assembly election and declaring Nepal as the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal are some of his aspiring achievements. Looking at his popularity the Nepal government has declared a national holiday on Sunday 21 March, 2010. Political Gurus have even speculated that, Grija’s death will certainly affect the new constitution building process and have even raised questions against the political stability and peace process in Nepal.
