A recent study by National Cyber Security Alliance has revealed that most computer users do not have any idea of the widely prevalent botnet threat.
Botnets are networks of computers hijacked by hackers using malware in the Internet.
Security agencies consider botnets to be a major threat. However 71 % of those who took part in the NCSA study had not even heard of botnets.
Around 47 % of people believed that their computers cannot be taken over by hackers without their knowledge.
An earlier study conducted by NCSA had also found out that most people were content with having a rudimentary anti-virus system to protect themselves, which reveals their illiteracy as to the actual dangers of botnets and hackers.
