Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is in hot water, once again due to illicit text messages he sent on a city-issued pager. These text messages led to March 2008 criminal charges against Kilpatrick his former chief of staff, Christine Beatty, for perjury, misconduct in office and obstruction of justice when they said in court that they were not having an extramarital affair.
Today’s news says that Kwame Kilpatrick send sexually explicit text messages to women other than Christine Beatty and his wife. This revelations slightly amends two of the eight charges filed against Kwame Kilpatrick. If the evidence is correct, not only did Kilpatrick lie about having an affair with Christine Beatty, but he lied when he said he wasn’t sexually involved with women other than Beatty and his wife.
Kilpatrick, who still serves as the mayor of Detroit, would lose his seat if convicted of the charges and would face jail time. Preliminary hearings are set for September 22, 2008.
