In a “poll of polls” which is a poll of the other polls combined, it is calculated by CNN that both Democratic presidential hopefuls and frontrunners Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are in a tight race in Texas as they are virtually tied with one another.
Three polls revealed that Obama has a 48 to 45 percent lead over Clinton amongst likely Democratic voters. However, seven percent were unsure on who they would vote for. Also, it shows that GOP frontrunner and likely nominee John McCain has a lead over Mike Huckabee by 20 points.
McCain leads Huckabee by 53 to 34 percent. 9 percent said that they had supported Texas Representative Ron Paul. However, four percent of likely Republican voters were unsure who they would vote for.
Texas along with Ohio, Vermont, and Rhode Island will hold contests on Tuesday, March 4. Barack Obama has eleven straight wins over Hillary Clinton ever since the Super Tuesday contests on February 5. In the beginning, Clinton was in the lead regarding the delegate count. After Super Tuesday, Obama and Clinton were virtually tied.
The contests after Super Tuesday put Obama in the lead. The Democrats Abroad global primary gave Obama his eleventh straight win. According to Clinton and her supporters, Ohio and Texas are “must win” for her. Her husband, former US President Bill Clinton acknowledged that Texas and Ohio would either make or break Hillary’s candidacy.
So far, Hillary has lost her lead in both Ohio and Texas.
The poll conducted by CNN used a Belo/Public Strategies poll which was conducted from February 24-25, an American Research Group poll conducted from February 23-24, and a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll conducted from February 22-24.
So far, Obama and Clinton are tight in Texas where they are virtually tied. There is a high chance that Obama can get a marginal lead over Clinton in Texas and Ohio before the actual contests.
Also, there is the issue of the rules regarding the Texas Democratic primaries. This could pose a problem for Clinton. Texas has both a primary and a caucus. Hillary has urged her supporters to vote twice. It is expected that Obama will net more delegates than Clinton in Texas.
