Srinagar, May 23 (Scoop News) –A low cost methodology is being introduced in critical areas of the State aimed to reduce man-animal conflict and the damage to human lives.
Under the methodology, an organic fencing is used to keep wildlife animals like bear and leopard away from human habitation.
This was stated by the Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad at an officers meeting of Wildlife Department here today.
Commissioner/ Secretary Forests, Sheikh Aijaz Iqbal, Chief Wildlife Warden, A.K.Singh, Regional Wildlife Warden, Manzoor Ahmad Tak, besides, other senior officers of the department were present on the occasion.
The Minister asked the officers to identify the critical areas and take the experts, invited for the purpose, there besides imparting necessary training to the local people and officials of Forest and Wildlife departments about this methodology to reduce man-animal conflict. “Human life is precious” said the Minister adding that need is to take necessary steps for reducing man-animal conflict.
The Minister instructed Chief Wildlife Warden to launch a massive awareness campaign through print media about the precautionary measures need to be taken by the people living in man-animal conflict proven areas of the State.
Mian Altaf asked the concerned officers to utilize available manpower and ensure their presence at place of duties and also make public the contact numbers of all 20 control rooms of the Valley to the people through newspapers.
It was given out that the team of experts, invited for the purpose, has visited the critical areas including Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar, Uri, Limber, Kazinag and Dara Mulnar while the response of the local villagers has remained encouraging. With joint efforts of the department, the death rate causing due to man-animal conflict, has also been reduced, it was told.
Some seismic censors (advanced warning system), camera traps are also proposed to be used for the purpose in near future. It was also given out.
