Health Minister, Shyam Lal Sharma’s statement in public
gathering regarding Jammu statehood, Kashmir independence and Union Territory
(UT) status to Ladakh region is looked as controversial in political circles,
but keeping in view aspirations of peace loving, progress and development
oriented population of Jammu, Ladakh and majority of people in Kashmir, the
statement is being seen as beginning of new era of politics in strife torn Jammu
and Kashmir State.
“Out of emotions after realizing height of discrimination
but amazing statement as any responsible minister cannot go against government
policy besides majority of the people in state and country are against the liberation
of Kashmir” said renowned politician and
State President Samajwadi Party, Sheikh Abdul Rehman. He said that more amazing
is that party Chief Prof Saif-U-Din Soz being present on the occasion instead
of clarifying illusions emerged out of minister’s statement regarding party and
government’s stance, preferred silence.
Secondly, Soz’s statement regarding introducing 73rd
and 74th amendments of Constitution of India in Panchyat Raj Act to
empower Panchyats is seen as toeing of Bhartiya Janata Party’s (BJP) line. But
fact of matter is that till the time Article 370 prevails amendments are not to
be introduced. Until and unless Article 370 is abolished it is not possible to
introduce amendments in Panchyat Raj Act, political experts viewed.
“Kashmir is integral part of India and no power on earth can
change this fact. But Congress minister’s statement is out of pain evolved due
to sheer discrimination with Jammu and Ladakh regions” Veteran politicians and BJP
legislative leader Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said. He said that BJP believes in
integrity of all the three regions of state. He added that government of the
day should at least address the discrimination issue now. Prof. Gupta said that
Congress leaders are giving divergent statements which cannot help them to
ignore the facts; ultimately they would have to come forward with a clear
policy.
It is important to mention that not only Soz and Sharma but
former PCC President and Peerzada Mohmmad Syeed by his statement snubbed Chief
Minister for his accession remark by saying that accession of state to India is
final. Political critics are of view that if Congress is serious about its
statements it should pull out support to government. They suggested that such
statements will amount to non serious stand of Congress and will not be in
their interest in times to come, particularly in Panchyat elections possibly to
held any time in next year.
