BISHKEK: Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev on Monday confirmed the nomination of Igor Chudinov, a former energy and industry minister, to the post of prime minister in this Central Asian state, the president’s press service said.
Chudinov’s nomination was put forward by the pro-presidential Ak-Zhol party, which won parliamentary elections earlier this month, promising political and economic stability for the crisis-hit country.
Ak-Zhol won 71 out of the 90 seats in the parliament in elections on December 16 that were heavily criticised by opposition parties and foreign observers as undemocratic.
Ak-Zhol also nominated Adakhan Madumarov, a former adviser to Bakiyev, as the new speaker of parliament on Monday.
