A newly developed software ‘Crish’ will automatically store the photograph and fingerprints of Internet users in cybercafes in the database of the computers, with the date and time of logging in, making it extremely easy to identify persons who send out fake and threatening e-mails.
‘Crish’ stands for ‘Customer Registration and Identification Software’, has been developed by a Lucknow-based company called G.I Biometrics.
Amit Kaushal, Director of G.I Biometrics said that after the software is installed, those visiting cybercafes will be identified as soon as they sit in front of a computer to surf the Net with the help of a web-camera.The photographs and finger prints of Net users will be automatically stored in the database of the computer, thereby eliminating the need to maintain a separate register of visitors of a cybercafe.
In addition, with the use of the software, there would be no need to prepare sketches of suspects who send threatening e-mails as their photographs and fingerprints would be stored in the computer database.
This new software could prove to be a boon for law enforcement agencies in different states. The technical wing of the Uttar Pradesh police has already seen a demonstration of ‘Crish’ and is making a technical analysis of its various features.
A senior police officer who has familiarized himself with the software said that it could be of great use for investigating agencies. If the software is installed in all cybercafes, it would be very easy to identify mischief-mongers and troublemakers.
The above software though useful to track the users of the cybercafe, on the other hand it also facilitates the functioning of even unmanned cybercafe or with a minimum of manpower, thereby rendering a number of employees working in the cybercafe surplus or in other words making them unemployed.
