New York City New York. On Monday the management of the New York Mets announced they have reached an agreement to extend the current contract of general manager Sandy Alderson, 66, for three more seasons.
Alderson who has been the general manager of the Oakland Athletics and San Diego Padres before he was hired by the Fred Wilpon who is the majority owner of the New York Mets before the start of the 2010 Major League Baseball season has not had success in getting the Mets into the postseason during his tenure.
Alderson has put together a solid pitching staff that should have the Mets in postseason contention in the near future. The catch is that the Mets pitchers will need to stay healthy if the team will have a chance to contend for a playoff position in the future.
Alderson’s new contract takes effect in the 2015 baseball season. The new contract expires at the end of the 2017 Major League Baseball season. Many baseball sports writers have stated the Mets management has made a wise decision letting Alderson assemble a baseball team that has a chance to make the playoffs for the first time since the end of the 2006 baseball season.
The 2006 New York Mets lost in seven games to the St Louis Cardinals in the National League Championship Series. It remains to be seen if the Mets have made the right decision by extending the current contract of Alderson through the end of the 2017 baseball season or not. Mets fans are hungry to return to the playoffs in the near future.
