New York City New York. Former New York Mets outfielder Chris Young, 30, who will be a free agent at the end of the 2014 Major League Baseball season will have another chance to pursue his dream of playing in the Major Leagues with the New York Yankees. Young signed a minor league contract on Wednesday. The Yankees are the crosstown rival of the New York Mets.
Young made his debut in the Major Leagues with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2006. Young has played in the Major Leagues for the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Oakland Athletics and New York Mets. Young is going to become a free agent at the end of the 2014 baseball season.
Young signed a one year, $7.25 million dollar contract with New York Mets before the start of the 2014 Major League Baseball season. The Mets released Young 12 days ago since the Mets are not in contention to make the playoffs this season. The Mets decided to play the younger players on their roster for the rest of the 2014 baseball season. Young was released since his performance with the Mets did not meet their expectations.
The Yankees are in a position to at least make the playoffs as a wild card this baseball season. Young will be playing baseball for the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Railriders which is the AAA minor league branch of the Yankees for the remainder of the minor league baseball season.
It is possible that Young will be on the Yankees 40 man roster on September1st. Young will probably be playing as a defensive replacement late in baseball games for the Yankees for the remainder of the 2014 baseball season if he makes the team this year.
