Now at nineteen years of age, Bailey Kurariki is in home detention at a secret location. Despite being in home detention, Kurariki is living the “good” life. Kurariki was released on parole not long ago. Still, Kurariki is free from being confined behind bars after six years.
As soon as Kurariki was released from prison, he’s had all sorts of fast food to his secret address in Auckland. Despite being free, Kurariki lives in hiding while in home detention. For his nineteenth birthday, Kurariki was showed with all sorts of expensive gifts. One of them was a cell phone with the texting capability.
He was thirteen at the time when he and a group of others beat Michael Choy to death in 2001.
Rita Croskery, the mother of Michael Choy found it difficult to grasp that Kurakiri was being showered by expensive gifts. She said that Kurakiri was now being handed things to him upon getting released.
But, Kurakiri’s mother, Lorraine West, insists that he was making up for the things he had not tried out for years.
In short, Kurakiri has been given a new lease on life. How he will use that new lease is anybody’s guess. His mother says that he’s improved in his behavior and his manners. However, the victim’s mother said that she does not see him changing.
This will definitely be making headlines through New Zealand for quite awhile. One can expect that there could possibly be much backlash as a result. Despite being under house detention as part of his parole, to Kurakiri, it’s freedom. Right now, Kurakiri is enjoying the “good” life.
