Newly sprouted and spread H7N9 bird flu virus kills two in Shanghai
On Sunday the official Xinhua News Agency reported that two men in Shanghai died in the month of March after catching a strain of avian influenza never known to have been passed to humans earlier.
Late February, two males aged 27 and 87 were hospitalised with the symptoms of fever and coughs that developed into pneumonia and died in early March. A woman in nearby Anhui province has also been infected by the virus and is critical as per NHFPC.
The NHFPC commission on the basis of clinical observation, laboratory tests and epidemiological surveys said that the bird flu virus strain found in these patients has been identified as H7N9 which has been transmitted to humans for the first time in history.
Reportedly, the mode of infection could not be ascertained and this virus is not contagious…
There are no proven vaccines against this newly sprouted and spread H7N9 virus.
