The Catholic Priest Reverend Jay Scott Newman has declared that those that voted for Democratic nominee Barack Obama of Illinois must do penance before taking Holy Communion.
We can notice the presence of the negative position that the religious side has taken regarding the political area after the Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois became the United States President-elect on November 4. Reverend Jay Scott Newman of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville, South Carolina wasn’t pleased at all with the election results, mainly because of the stance of abortion.
Newman has explained that he can legally refuse the sacrament to parishioners.
“We cannot leave our faith outside the voting booth,” Newman said.
This represents for sure another challenge that Obama must face once he takes the oath of office come January of 2009.
