In the wake of the Valerie Plame leak scandal, Scott McClellan will be testifying before the House committee. McClellan will testify if VP Dick Cheney ordered him to mislead the public on the identity of Valerie Plame.
Recently, McClellan has made headlines and received condemnation from the administration of US President George W. Bush after releasing his book called “What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception.” In this book, McClellan said that he was misled by many such as current VP Dick Cheney in regards of the leaking of the identity of Valerie Plame, a CIA agent.
In a sense, McClellan’s book could be a supplement to the book released by Plame back in October of 2007. In 2007, Plame released a book about her memoirs called “Fair Game: My Life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House.” Plame had worked many years as an operative of the CIA. It was a few years back that Plame’s identity was leaked out.
Many high profile figures were implicated such as Carl Rove, Robert Novak, and Scooter Libby. Libby was the only one convicted as a result. However, the sentence was commuted and Libby was given two years probation. Back in March, Libby got his law license seized by the US Court of Appeals.
As a result of book release, McClellan has been invited to the hearing on the leak of Plame’s identity as a CIA agent.
This could give an indication that this will play a huge role on the US Presidential elections between presumed Democratic nominee Barack Obama and presumed GOP nominee John McCain.
It could hurt the GOP even more as it tries to repair its tarnished image. At the same time, it could possibly cause more Republicans to distance themselves from Bush.
