Perfection no more…Colts beat by Jets and Colt coach Caldwell
The 1972 Miami Dolphins remain the only undefeated team in NFL history. Don Shula coached the Dolphins perfect team in 1972 and said after the game "While the Jets’ win today ended Indianapolis’ streak and showed once again how difficult it is to go undefeated, I want to congratulate ths Colts on a great run. Peyton Manning proved once again this season why he is one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the NFL and it was certainly no surprise to see him lead the Colts to an NFL record 23 straight victories."
Peyton Manning and a few other starters were pulled in the third quarter with 5:36 left to play. At the time they were winning 15-12 but the Jets took advantage and rallied to win 29-15.
Coach Jim Caldwell is focused on a Super Bowl run rather than a perfect season…and Manning and company are all on board.
With this win the Jets now control their own playoff destiny, with a win next week against the Bengals they will be in the postseason for the first time since 2006.
The Colts are now 14-1 and their home winning streak of 13 games is over, also their NFL record regular winning streak of 23 games came to an end. Keeping players healthy and rested is what Coach Caldwell wants and what the team will try it’s best to do. Getting ready for that Super Bowl run even if it meant giving up on perfection!
