Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia:
Non-Governmental Organisations who seemed to be opposed to everything connected with development was rapped here recently by REHDA Penang Branch Chairman.
REHDA or also known as The Real Estate and Housing Developers Association Malaysia,Penang Branch was incensed by local NGO’s who opposed projects that have been approved by none other than the state government.
Datuk Jerry Yan, the Penang Branch REHDA Chairman, said NGO’s should not behave as if they knew everything and have the power to halt certain projects.
The state government’s decision in approving such projects should be respected by all, said Yan.
Eventhough he did not named the NGO, it was apparent that he referred to the Penang Heritage Trust.
Non-Governmental Organisations have been very vocal these few years around here. There are cases when they are confrontational.
It is this particular attitude that really got on the nerve of many government’s agencies.
It is a standard procedure here that many views are taken into account before a certain project is approved. Among those usually invited to give views are the NGO’s.
