Nigeria is to host the 7th edition of the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) schedule for 2010, President of the organisation, Masno Ginting, announced in Abuja at the weekend.
Ginting, who is also the President of Indonesian Physical Society (IPS), spoke to Daily Independent on the objectives and outcome of his just-concluded visit to Indonesian, which was facilitated by Still Learning Nigeria (SLN).
He disclosed that Minister of Science and Technology, Grace Ekpiwhre, and the director of science education would be at the next session of the competition coming up in Taipai, Taiwan in 2008.
According to the Chief Executive Offocer of Still Learning Nigeria, kingsley Imade, six students who have been selected to represent the country at the 2008 competition are currently being camped and trained at the Regina Pacis Girls Secondary School, Abuja.
The IJSO president, who met with the minister, the governor of Kwara State, Bukola Sarari, and other top government officials during his visit, noted that the advantage of Nigeria’s hosting of the global event would be the reduced air fare for other surrounding countries.
