It was yet another shine time for some of the crËme of the Nigerian movie industry as they were the guests of a select elite class of Africans and Europeans that thronged the venue of the 12th edition of the annual Afro Hollywood Awards, which held penultimate Saturday in London.
Like stars that they are, they literally lit the King’s Suite of the Hilton Metropole Hotel, Edgware Road, London venue of the event and capped their attendance by walking home tall with awards in different categories.
Clem Ohameze, led the pack of awardees. He went home with the Best Actor (Nigerian movies in English) award. Dakore Egbuson carted home that of the Best Actress. Other recipients were Fred Aseroma who went home with the Best Crossover Actor and, Grace Amah was adjudged the Best Supporting Actress, while Iyabo Ojo won in the Yoruba movies category.
Other recipients were Ronke Oshodi (also known as Surutu) who won the Best Actress (Yoruba category). An obviously elated Surutu, sang a popular tune to praise God for making the day a reality.
Hunky Ayo Badmus went home with the Best Up and Coming Actor (Yoruba category), while rising starlet, Funke Akindele, won same award in the Yoruba movies category.
Other awardees were Sanni Musa, more popularly known as Sanni Danger: he went home with the Best Actor in Hausa movies category. Sanni Muazu was declared the Best Producer/ Director of Hausa movies.
Though Kenny St. Brown who won the award for Best Gospel Act performed to the delight of the A-list guests, it was Sanni Danger that stole the show with his dance steps. His performance, especially the acrobatic display, drew thunderous applause from the upscale guests, which included high profile personalities like director of trade and economy, Mallam Zaaki Garba, who stood in for Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK and, Rosemary Emordi, who represented the Mayor of London.
Other guests included Nigerian businessmen in the UK. Among them were Patrick Ide and his wife, Stella Maris, Godwin Okri, Princess Odumosu and Asiwaju Abimbola among many others.
