Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan seeks $1bn to combat Boko haram insurgency

On Wednesday, 16 July 2014, president Good luck Jonathan presented a letter to the National Assembly demanding the lawmakers to urgently approve $1bn external loan in tackling the terrorist Islamic Sect, Boko Haram by the Federal Government.

The letter dated July 15 2014 was read to the hearing of the floor members of the senate and to the House of Representatives on Wednesday through the speaker of House of Assembly, Aminu Tambuwal and Senate president, David Mark respectively.

Jonathan expressed the need for the external loan as it was meant to combat terrorism forcefully through the upgrade of equipment, professional training and logistics of the Armed forces and security services.

The letter titled “Tackling ongoing security challenges, Need for urgent action” stressed so much on the ongoing and security challenges confronting Nigeria. The National Assembly had in the #4.6 trillion naira 2014 budget provisions appropriated #968.127 billion naira for defense on account of the Boko Haram insurgency.

President Good luck Jonathan had assured Nigerians of his tireless efforts in combating terrorism in Nigeria.
