The popularity of eastern medicine has extensively grown larger than expected through the years. And the concept that goes with it have evolved with the introduction of herbal medicines that comes with different labeling and identifying marks of herbal plant extracts.
Although eastern medicine were proven to be effective like acupressure, acupuncture, shiatsu, reflexology or the normal body massage applied with natural oil extracted from raw and natural plants to the human body, herbal medicines in capsule and liquid form offers no specific or definite cure to ailments as shown on its packaging label the word “No Approved Therapeutic Claim.”
But despite of the ambiguous labeling of synthetic herbal medicines in the market, its sales dominates the non food products. Good marketing and advertising strategy attracts health conscious and gullible customers. Most of the time companies in the synthetic herbal medicine productions hire celebrities as endorsers.
The Bureau of Food and Drugs or BFAD of the Philippines, a regulatory body, has no specific rules on the proliferations of synthetic herbal medicines in the market place. The medicines are sold as cure-all to illnesses like kidney, liver, heart problem, high blood pressure, muscle pain and arthritis. Others promotes wellness and slim body figures.
Through the years, customers keep on patronizing old and new synthetic herbal products hoping that it would ease or eliminate illnesses and improved their health. The prices of synthetic herbal medicines are quite high, but patrons try it anyway even if it has “No Approved Therapeutic Claim.”
