No body allowed to sabotage electoral process in country, says Musharraf

ISLAMABAD: Reiterating the government resolve to ensure free, fair and transparent elections across the country including Swat, president Pervez Musharraf said that no body would be allowed to sabotage electoral process.

He was chairing a high-level meeting here. Caretaker Prime Minister Muhammadmian Soomro, Chief of Army Staff General Ishfaq Kiani, Governor NWFP Ali Jan Orakzai, Chief Minister NWFP Shamsul Mulk, Interior Minister Hamid Nwaz, Law Minister Afzal Haider and others were present in the meeting.

Pervez Musharraf said that General Elections 2008 will be held throughout the country including Swat according to the schedule announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The officials of the armed forces briefed President on the armed operation recently carried out in Swat. President asked the concerned officials to soon submit him a report on the number of people who migrated from the area during the operation and the property losses they suffered.

The investigation report into terror suspect Rashid Rauf’s escape from police custody was also presented to the President.

Addressing the meeting, President said that army will remain in Swat till the area is not completely cleared from terrorists.

President Musharraf further said that government would take all steps necessary for holding of the general elections peacefully. President directed the concerned officials to ensure equal security to all political leaders during the electoral process.

President also urged the federal and provincial governments to ensure that Election Code of Conduct is followed in its true spirit during the electoral process.
