Srinagar, August 02 (Scoop News)- After the starling revelation made by four Hizbul Mujahideen militants in police custody that they were given job by their supreme commander to target the Sarpanches in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, a sense of insecurity has once again developed among the thousands of Panchayat leaders across the state of Jammu and Kashmir . Already, six Sarapnches have been killed by the unidentified militants and nearly a dozen have been injured in the past one and half year in Jammu Kashmir .
It is pertinent to mention here that four militants belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen arrested few days back by JK Police in connection with attack on a Sarpanch and killing of an SPO in Sopur area of north Kashmir revealed during their interrogation that they had a target to kill at least five Sarpanches across the state till Eid festival . Police said that the arrested militants told them that this direction was passed to the militants by UJC united jihad council chairman Syed Slah-u-Din from across the LOC .
Taking the development seriously, All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), an apex body of Panchayat leaders of the state convened an emergency meeting in Summer capital Srinagar on Friday and took the stock of the situation . Presided over by Chairman AJKPC, Shafiq Mir, the Panchayat leaders expressed their deep concern over the safety and security of Panches and Sarpanches in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and appealed the central government to intervene for their security . Speaking on the occasion provincial president Kashmir Imtiaz Afzal Beig said “ now the police has itself came out with a statement that militants were planning to target the Panchayat leaders and the orders were being issued from across the border . Despite this, government of Jammu and Kashmir has not made any security arrangement for their security cover”, he said . Ghulam Hassan Panzoo , spokesman AJKPC while speaking on the occasion said that the situation was grave and the Panches and Sarpanches across the Kashmir valley were terrified after this revelation . He said that the state government has failed to protect democracy in the state and their will be no taker of Indian democracy in Kashmir if the situation continued like this.
While concluding , Shafiq Mir, Chairman All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference again appealed the central government to intervene in the state if they want to save democratic institutions in Jammu and Kashmir. Mir further said that the people of the state have no faith in JK government as it has completely failed on all fronts adding that there was no fun to make any hope with the state government led by Mr Omar Abdullah . Mir warned the central government if they kept all affairs at the mercy of Omar Abdullah government their will be no taker of this so called democracy in the state of Jammu and Kashmir . While demanding the security cover for Panchayat leaders , Shafiq Mir wanted clear statement from the central government whether they can protect the panchayat leaders or not .
