No hush hush in creation of administrative units: Mehbooba

Srinagar, January 12, (Scoop News)- Cautioning the government against any manipulations for political ends in creation of new administrative units Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today demanded publication of the Mushtaq Ganai report on the subject. The party president Mehbooba Mufti told a meeting here that by employing the cabinet sub committee for cosmetic meetings on the subject the government was apparently up to a mischievous agenda to serve the political interests of some ministers. The meeting of was convened to welcome into the party fold, Shabir Ahmed Mir, a prominent citizen of Tangmarg who has distinguished himself in social service and sports.
Mehbooba said the government would invite trouble if it created new administrative units in a secretive, selective and hush hush manner. “We won’t allow them to repeat the fraud that was committed in establishment of health centers recently which has left most deserving areas without the basic medicare but served only the interests of a few influential ministers,” Mehbooba said.

She said the Mushtaq Ganai committee report should be made public to seek the opinion of the people instead of holding hurriedly convened cosmetic meetings, by a group of ministers who even select the audience for such meetings on political considerations in order to seek suggestions convenient to the political agenda of ruling parties.

She said even the schools were opened and upgraded only in few constituencies represented by some influential ministers, leaving more genuine claims of other areas unaddressed. “These ministers virtually buy loyalties of their supporters at the cost of the interests of the rest of the state,” she said.

Mehbooba said it was encouraging to see that people from different walks of life are joining the PDP in good numbers, and reposing faith in the democratic process to find solution of their problems. She said PDP offers a platform for well educated and honest business man like Shabir to encourage them and play their role in the party’s vision of political resolution and good governance in the state.

She said PDP is turning out to be a best alternative for the people as it has proved its credentials both in the government and in opposition and it is the party’s endeavor to offer a respectable space for intellectuals, professionals and the youth to help the party to take the state out of the present governance crisis and political uncertainty.

Reacting to criticism of National Conference about the joining of eminent broadcaster of international repute, journalist and writer, Nayeema Ahmad Mahjoor into the PDP, Mehbooba said Nayeema’s entry into the party fold is a part of the current trend in which enlightened people from different walks of life sense a hope in PDP and its agenda of peace and development away from the political frauds committed by the NC over the last 60 years.

She said Nayeema’s coming into the party adds the expanding pool of talent this party has attracted over the years and NC has a reason to feel worried on this trend. “Instead of breast beating they should set their house in order,” said Mehbooba.

She said Nayeema has a world view of things which will certainly help in formulating our policies and programs and in further fine tuning of our vision for peace and stable J&K.

Mehbooba said reason for NC to get jittery over the growing popularity of PDP among all sections of people is because for the first time in their history they are facing a tough and structured opposition within the system, but the remedy for them is not to criticize the people who joined PDP, but offer a better and more creative atmosphere in that party which, unfortunately, has been sullied by the events like Haji Yousuf episode, Cricket scam, Drug Scam, BOPEE scandal etc. which is repelling people from NC.

On the occasion Mohammad Abbas Wani, local leader Tangmarg; Abdul Azioz Dar, zone president; Advocate Ghulam Hassan Ganie, zonal organizer, Prof. Abdul Jabbar and Abdul Hamid Wani were present.
