No pay for Malawian members of Parliament in July

Malawi Members of Parliament not paid July salaries.

Malawi Members of Parliament have not received the July salaries.

Most of them were seen in the National Bank of Malawi yesterday pleading with bank officials.

This follows a warning from the President of Malawi Dr. Bingu Wa Mutharika that they may not receive their salaries beceuaes they are reluctant to pass the 2008/2009 budget.

Most of the Mps are worried their children would suffer if they do not get the July salaries.

Members of Parliament from the opposition have insisted that they would not pass the budget if their desire for the inclusion of section 65 is not honoured.

Section 65 states that any member of parliament who has gone to another party should have his constituency declared vacant.

Most of the ministers have abandoned the opposition and gone into government to ensure their constituents receive development projects.

Government has insisted that the budget that affects every Malawi should be a priority other than the section that would only benefit the opposition.
