“No plastic bags everyday” activity in Hong Kong

There is an activity named “No plastic bags everyday” performing from last months in Hong Kong. This activity is targeted to reduce the use of plastic bags in the shops and supermarkets. The customers will not get the plastic bags if they don’t ask for. And the cashier will suggest you take the reusable bags rather than use the plastic bags.

Previously I dislike this activity because I think it is just for the benefit of the supermarkets. If they don’t offer the plastic bags, they will save the money, they don’t need to package the bags for the customers and they can also sell the reusable bags. But after knowing the environment pollution which the plastic bags have induced, I changed my mind.

There are 1 million plastic bags being used every minute, and the degradation of the plastic bags needs at least 1 thousand years. Now the white pollution has become the most important environment pollution in the world. It is not the fault of plastic bags. The discovery of it is for the convenience of human life. It is the fault of the way handling the recovery of the plastic bags.

Now I reduce the use of plastic bags as much as possible. I know the activity is just like the “Earth Hour”. Its target is not for reducing the use of the plastic bags, it is for minding people the environment pollution problem we have to face.
