No police officers were injured during a raid in a house in Temanggung, Central Java. A House that used as the hideout of infamous terrorist Noordin M. Top, Saturday, August 8.
The police believed that they have killed the most wanted terrorist, Noordin M. Top, during the two-day raid (since 17.00 WIB, Friday – until 09.00 WIB, Saturday). However, further identification tests will be carried out in Jakarta.
Meanwhile, the National Police Chief General Bambang Hendarso Danuri already visited the raid location. Noordin M. Top is suspected in all major terrorist attacks in the country since 2002, including blasts on Bali in 2002, JW. Marriott in 2003, Australian Embassy in 2004 and the last bombing against JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels in Jakarta last July 17.
Police have launched a series of raids since Friday, August 7, and a police official said that a man who suspected to be Noordin M. Top was killed during a raid on a workshop in Temanggung, approximately 250 miles southeast of Jakarta.
"He was shot dead," the police said, adding that raid in the area had led police to a house in Bekasi, on the outskirts of the capital, where at least 500 kg of active bombs had been found.
Moreover, a source in Indonesia’s anti-terrorism unit Detachment 88 also said police believed that Top had been killed.
The National Police Spokesman Nanan Soekarna, also hope that Noordin was the person who killed in the Temanggung raid.
"I think this is very significant. Hopefully the person in Temanggung is Noordin," said Nanan.
