Civil servants in Malawi, Southern Africa ,will not receive salaries for August, 2007, It has been learned.
Parliament adjourned indefinely last week after the opposition refused to discuss the budget insisting to discuss section 65 which empowers the Speaker to declare vacant seats of Members of Parliament who have joined other parties.
Most Members of Parliament have joined the government side.
Because of disagreements,the SpeakerLouis Chimango announced that Parliament was adjourned indefinetely to allow discussions between the opposition and government sides.
This means civill servants, chiefs and employees from government companaies may not get the August pay.Hospital drugs will also not be bought.Those on high risk are those receiving ARV drugs which prolong lives of those with HIV/AIDS related diseases.
The situation has irked most non governmental organisations who have accused the opposition of trying to wreck the economy of the country.
However the President of the country, Dr Bingu Wa Mutharika said at a rally a day before that his government can run even without Parliament passing the 2007/2008 budget.
