Jammu & Kashmir: Interlocutors appointed amidst collecting views and suggestions of all shades of people to resolve Kashmir dispute seems to have not evolved desired impact. As main parties in Kashmir including different factions of Hurriyat, Kashmir Bar Association and other main stream political parties did not turn up to meet them. Bhartiya Janata Party, Jammu Bar Association, National Panther Party, Jammu State Morcha and Pandit migrant organizations in Jammu has refused to meet them. Other main stream and social groups though shared their point of view with the delegates but of no importance for settlement of main issue.
Talking media reporters before leaving to Delhi Thursday, interlocutors Dileep Padgaonkar and Radha Kumar categorically refuted the reports that they have suggested anybody for drawing roadmap to achieve Azadi. They said that azadi have different meaning for different people. Interlocutors admitted that they have said that Indian Constitution could be amended after unanimous thought over issues is evolved in Parliament. “Our determination is to go and tell political leaders back in Delhi of what we have gathered,” they said and added “so it is completely premature to formulate opinions as we are in the process of understanding and listening people which is our mandate.”
Political experts are of view that engaging interlocutors hardly possess any importance now, as for the last sixty years successive central governments have not taken the issues seriously instead have cultivated a trend of appeasement among the masses of Valley. They said it is high time and government should rise above vote politics and clear all doubts in the minds of people. It is important to mention here that in the last month a delegation of all party Parliamentarians visited valley after continuous turmoil of more than three months where in noting more than discontent and dissatisfaction was achieved. Even before Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh initiated a process of dialogue as confidence building measure but the recommendations set by delegates were not implemented due to unknown reasons.
Interlocutors have expressed that they will open offices in Srinagar and Jammu where people can come and meet them to keep their point of view which could help in solving the K-issue. But the question arises what will be the task of ministers and bureaucrats then. Politicians and bureaucrats are confined to get handsome salaries against signing transfer orders of lower staff in their air conditioned offices, said political experts. They suggested that interlocutors should rejoin their jobs as those who met them here did not expect much from them. Issues pertaining to various sections are well known to union home ministry, they added.
