Indonesia, the largest moslem nation in the world, finally follows Qatar, Bahrain, & Uni Emirat Arab to ban NOAH, the movie. The chief leader ( Mr. Mukhlis Paeni) of so-called LSF (Lembaga Sensor Film) or Film Censoring Institution says that “we don’t forbid, but we don’t give the permit”. The illogical statement said by the top leader of a nation-wide institution has caused a polemic in Indonesia social media.
This kind of religious-sentiment issue is very fragile in this emerging nation. Especially during the approaching presidential election, the issue of illegitimate or legitimate based on religious-faith becomes politic commodity. Even the most popular candidate called Jokowi (Joko Widodo) of next president is tried to be stamped as “illegitimate candidate”. Mr. Jokowi has been accused to support Christians and being supported by Jews-related fund.
While this religious sentiment issues are many times being politicized, the root of the problem is deeper than that. The radical always attempts to change the foundation of the nation with sharia law. This battle still goes on because of the weakness in Law Enforcement in Indonesia.
As conclusion, the banning of Noah is just a symptom of the real disease. The fourth largest nation in the world is being faced with a reality that the radical still exists. People of Indonesia has put hope in Mr. Jokowi for the new era of Indonesia. A democratic nation that protects its citizens by law and constitution, and not religion.
