Baramulla, August 27 (Scoop News)-North Kashmir Journalists Association (NKJA) on Tuesday staged strong protest at Baramulla against the brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old photojournalist in Mumbai and demanded stern action against the rapists.
Journalists’ working with various print and electronic media organizations from north Kashmir’s Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara districts gathered in Kripa Park of Baramulla town and took out a peaceful protest rally against shameful incident.
Protesting journalist, who sported black bands on their arms, were carrying play cards reading slogans ‘Hang the Mumbai Rapists’, Stop Violence Against Journalists, Who Is Safe Here when Criminals rule the roost and ‘We Condemn the Mumbai Rape for together we live, work and fight for truth.”
“We strongly condemn the shameful incident and express out solidarity with victim and her family. We also want stern action against the accused arrested by police and speedy justice to victim photojournalist,” said spokesman NKJA.
The heinous rape of woman photojournalist speaks volumes about women security in India and the increasing incidents of gang rapes in India have send shock waves across globe.
Spokesman said,“Journalists working different parts of world face grave situations and threat from varied power quarters. So together we have to fight against all odds.”
It may be mentioned that the victim, who worked as an intern with an English magazine, was gang-raped by five men on last Thursday evening when she had gone to the deserted Shakti Mills compound in Lower Parel with a male colleague on assignment.
