Korean Central News Agency reported on Saturday that Kim watched a soccer game.
If the KCNA’s report is to be believed, N Korea’s dictator Kim Jong Il has made his first public appearance in nearly two months.
He reportedly watched a soccer game, to commemorate Kim Il-Sung University’s 62nd anniversary, between two N Korean universities in Pyongyang.
The eponymous Kim Il-Sung University, after Kim’s father, won Pyongyang University of Railways 4-1.
The 66-year-old Kim was ostensibly absent for his country’s anniversary parade in September and for Korean Thanksgiving. He has not been seen in public since mid-August until now.
S Korean officials had told reporters that Kim suffered a stroke and underwent brain surgery. N Korean officials on the other hand, denied the claims.
KCNA’s report did not specify the date of the game, and verifying it is almost impossible as the country is notoriously reclusive.
US nuclear envoy Christopher Hill, who had been in the country early in the week to discuss the disarmament-for-aid program, did not mention the dictator when he returned to the US.
