Udhampur/Jammu,August 14 (Scoop News) -Army personnel from the operationally committed Northern Command were conferred large number of National awards on the eve of the Independence Day. The awards are one Kirti Chakra, nine Shaurya Chakras, one Bar to Sena Medal and fifty-five Chief of the Army Staff Commendation Cards. These awards are a pointer to the highest traditions of sacrifice, valour and professionalism.
Capt Devinder Singh Jass of 1 PARA (SF) was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra for gunning down terrorist before laying down his life in a fierce encounter in Chinkipora in Sopore District on 23 Feb this year.
Lt Gen BS Jaswal, PVSM,AVSM**,VSM the GOC-In-C Northern Command, conferred commendation cards to 50 Officers, 41 Junior Commissioned Officers, 101 Jawans. The commendation cards were also conferred on eight police officers and six civilian employees.
