The arrangements for regional meeting of Standing Committee of Northern Zonal
Council (NZC) to be held at
were taken stock of, at a high level meeting here today. The meeting was
chaired by Chief secretary Madav Lal. As many as, 7 northern states including
Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan Uttar Pradesh
and New Delhi and 20 Union Ministries are participating in the high profile
meeting scheduled on June 20.
Chief Secretary advised the concerned officials to put in
place all measures for the successful conduct of the meeting.
The meeting is likely to discuss issues pertaining to the
joint strategies and policies to achieve zonal harmony in various sectors with
mutual long term benefits. The meeting will also focus on issues relating to
common problems of the northern states and measures to address these. The
meeting will review progress on implementation of the recommendations made by
the Northern Zonal Council at its last meeting held at Shimla in 2005. Issues
relating to Commerce and Industry, Rural Electrification, Border Area
Development Programme, Health programmes and Medical infrastructure and other
matters relating to public administration will also come up for discussions.
