Srinagar, October 29, (Scoop News)- Noted medico and social worker Dr Gazzanfar Ali joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) here today.
Dr Gazzanfar is the son of late Abdul Qayoom, who was a prominent political leader in Chare-Sharief area of district Budgam. Late Qayoom was a minister in the National Conference government between 1996 and 2002.
Welcoming Dr Gazzanfar into the party fold, PDP Patron Mr Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said PDP is fast emerging as a strong representative voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir because of its unflinching consistency and pro-people policies.
Senior PDP leader and the party candidate for Chrar-e-Sharief Assembly constituency Mr Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjoora and Senior PDP leader Dr Haseeb Drabu were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, in another joining function held at Srinagar residence of PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, eminent agriculture scientist, educationist academician, Dr Ghulam Nabi Bhat from Bandipora in North Kashmir has also joined the party.
Mr Naeem Akhtar, Chief Spokesperson and Mr Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, State Secretary and Chief Election Co-ordinator, were also present on the occasion.
Dr Bhat, a retired professor and head department of Plant Pathology, Agriculture University Shalimar, has worked as associate director and head Regional Rice Research Station, Khudwani, Anantanag. He has more than 70 research publications in various national and international journals. He has a privilege of being the speaker of various international conferences. Dr Bhat has also worked in various capacities as junior scientist, senior scientist and chief scientist in various national research projects of ICAR.
Others who joined the party fold on the occasion include Dr Abdul Gani, renowned educationist; Dr Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Professor of Agronomy and Mr Gh Qadir Chaloo, former deputy director Planning, Govt. of J&K and Mohammad Abdulla Sofi, retired agricultural officer of the state.
Speaking on the occasion the new entrants said they were impressed by the party’s vision and ideology and the credibility of its leadership. They said if Jammu and Kashmir has to progress on modern lines and compete with the rest of world, it has to develop its human resource in such a fashion so that they can compete with the fast changing global scenario bravely and efficiently.
They said the party during its brief stint in the government did a remarkable job in this regard by establishing institutions of higher learning and research which has benefitted to a large section of the society. They said Kashmir’s progress will come through its youth only and they need to be trained, empowered to take up the emerging challenges and it is only PDP which has a vision for it. They said the moral high standard in governance, development and political accommodation PDP set between 2002 and 2005 was remarkable.
