National Port Authority (NPA) Managing Director Matilda W. Parker has commended the Nigerian Contingent of the United Nations Mission in Liberia, NIBATT 22, UNMIL, for its contribution towards improving the security situation at the Free Port of Monrovia.
The Managing Director made the commendation when she paid a courtesy call on the Commanding Officer of NIBATT 22, Lt. Col. BO Sawyerr, at the NIBATT headquarters Fatoma Camp, Tubmanburg, Bomi County last Saturday.
According to a NIBATT 22 press release, Madam Parker said her visit was necessitated by the good work the Commanding Officer and his officers are doing in improving security at the Free Port of Monrovia, which, according to her, is the backbone of the country’s economy.
She further thanked the NIBATT for improving the skills of other security operatives, saying, “I have come to say thank you for imparting positively and improving security at the Free Port within the time you have stayed in the mission.”
The press release further quoted the NPA Managing Director as saying the port is a major source of government revenue generation. She, however, expressed disappointment that some criminal-minded persons were trying to undermine the good work being done at the Port.
With proper security mechanisms put in place at the port by NIBATT 22, the MD indicated that criminal activities at the port have been minimized.
Responding on behalf of the Nigerian Contingent of UNMIL, the Commanding Officer thanked the Managing Director and her entourage for the courtesy visit. He applauded Madam Matilda for her development initiatives, good leadership qualities and achievements which, he said, were gargantuan and worthy of emulation.
The Commanding Officer assure the Madam Matilda of his contingent’s continued support to the port management. He reaffirmed that NIBATT would collaborate with the Port Security Police and other security personnel in the fight against crime at the port.
