One hears all kinds of horror tales about the lifestyle of nonresident Indians who are settled in US and elsewhere. The latest tale of torture, or shoud we say alleged torture, comes from Tiruchi, in southern India.
A year after her marriage to a software engineer a bride from Tiruchi died in suspicious circumstances in the hospital. Conflicting versions of the end and the accident that occured earlier reached the parents of the bride. The husband and the relatives on their side reported it as an accident, that she fell off the moving car.She was in hospital and recovering. Fortunately a Pakistani settled there (there is a reason to mention this )informed the parents in Tiruchi that it was a deliberate act by the husband and she was pushed off the moving vehicle. She did not die instantly and was in coma. The father immediately moved the Us consulate and obtained the visa. The stranger’s report, they say,was nearer the truth. There was none to take care of her. The motive is perhaps greed for yet more money from the parents’ side. They had already spent a fortune, by Indian standards , on the gifts to the bridegroom.
this is not an isolated case. Quite a few brides find that the husband has a legally wedded wife already and married to spare the parents any hard feelings. So one marries for convenience and the gifts they generate in the form of bride money, property gifts etc. And physical urges being what they are, they would have maried already a white girl in the university dorm.
This is one aspect. The greater tragedy is that these couplings take place on the basis of false pretenses. On landing the bride would find that the husband has no permanent placement and marriage was a means to obtain it.
The landlords in the countryside would hapily send their wards to employers abroad for securing a better life for themselves as well as the girl. The innocent child would be tortured , beaten black and blueand subjected to sadistic excesses. The innocent, uneducated girl, a stranger in a foreign land, would not even know how to obtain relief .
Dr Abdul Kalaam, the former President of India, had a few posers for these self-seeking guys and gals. Why can’t they observe the laws of the country of their adoption when they land in India? Like restrainng theselves from spitting on the streets, or throwing litter where they fancy or pissing in public, serious offences which invite fine and worse in the country they chose to reside in.One would go further and ask: what use your affluence if that makes you less than human?
About the Pakistani connection. They are one and behave as one elsewhere.
