A renal nurse on her day-off from her work got a desperate call from a patient who needs assistance on her dialysis treatment during a winter storm that caused a 14-inch deep snow. Nurse Debbie Noble could not refuse the call of duty and immediately proceeded to the patient’s house nine miles away under treacherous conditions as the heaviest snowfall brought the nation to a standstill.
The nurse responded to a call from Steph Crawford who suffers from kidney failure and was trapped in her apartment in Ewell, Surrey in England. Crawford could not drive to her usual dialysis center in Kingston, Southwest London because of the snow. Without treatment, she could have died.
Mail Online:’ When she called Mrs. Noble in desperation on Monday last week, the renal nurse who was on a day-off immediately set out from her home in Ashtead, Surrey four and a half miles away.
Having completed her mission, she had to then walk home again. And she even repeated her trek the following day, the report added.
Mrs. Crawford has a dialysis machine in her home but it was not yet ready for her to use it without assistance. She said she was on her way to the dialysis center but when she opened the door, the snow was up to her knees. She tried to drive bit was stuck at the end of the road.
‘I really began panicking then. I tried to work the machine myself but it wouldn’t. When I spoke to Debbie on the phone, she told me not to panic and said she was on her way over. When I told her it would be impossible because of the weather, she simply said, ‘no I’m walking’, the mother of two added. ‘What she did was amazing’.
Mrs. Crawford added: ‘There aren’t enough words to say how thankful I am to her. She is literally a life-saver.
