NWFP Police to Have Blast Resistant Buildingagency

To ensure maximum protection to the police personnel the government of NWFP is considering to build blast resistant and earthquake proof buildings for the police personnel and one of such pilot project is already in the completion stage at Peshawar.

The first of its kind, the new building will prove like a fort for all those police personnel who will be provided with accommodation facilities inside the police station. Built from the light weight material the building will have the capacity to absorb the quake of more than 8.6 magnitudes.

A UK based firm has been given the contract to build a pilot building at East Cantt Police Station Peshawar and sixty percent of construction work has already been completed. The first of its kind, the new building will provide a secure environment to around 200 Police training officials.

Talking to the APP the Supervising Engineer of the project, Ehsan Khokar said separate residential and mess facilities were being provided in this shock and bullet proof building. He said that the well-equipped building being constructed had modern cooling and heating system and to reduce the monthly expenses of the already financially stressed police department, solar energy panels were being installed in the building.

Khokar said, “This geothermal technology will also be used in lock-up portion and rest of the police station which will help in saving electricity.”  He said the pilot project once completed would be extended to rest of police stations in the NWFP and such building could be constructed by the other departments to make the officials and building safe, and environment friendly. He said construction of such building could be completed in a short spin of not more than 180 days.

Police force is more vulnerable to the attacks from the militants and check posts are being targeted all around the province and a large number of officials have been killed in such attacks during the last few months. Avoiding the suicide attack may not be that much easy but the NWFP government is committed to utilize the new and modern technologies that may help in reducing the life losses to the NWFP Police personnel.
