Only a day before the election to appoint the future leader of Washington, the grandmother of Senator Barack Obama, the candidate in the battle for the White House, died of cancer, Reuters announced.
"With great sadness we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, died peacefully after a battle with cancer. She was the cornerstone of our family and a woman of great talent, strength and modesty. She was the person who has encouraged us to take risks. She was proud of her grandchildrens and left this world with the belief that its influence over us, all was significant and enduring. Our gratitude towards her is enormous " , Obama said in a joint statement supported with his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng.
Last month, the campaign of the Democratic candidate was interrupted for two days,in order for him to visit Grandma in Hawaii ,that was 86 years ,and also very sick.
Some experts believe that the tragic moment that happened today could bring some extra votes to the candidate.
The Democratic candidate has a seven-percent advance in the electoral race in front of his political rival,the Republican John McCain.
Nearly 153 million of Americans have registered on electoral lists, and experts are expecting to a massive vote.
