Eric Holder, former Acting and Deputy Attorney General under Bill Clinton, has been offered the position of Attorney General under President-Elect Barack Obama.
If confirmed, Mr. Holder (57) will be the first African-American to serve in that position.
Previous positions for Mr. Holder include co-chair of Obama’s Vice President search team and U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
There has been no official announcement, as the Transition Team wants to announce appointments to the Treasury Department and State Department first and Mr. Holder still has some "vetting" to do, but the offer is apparently firm.
Having had previous experience running the day-to-day operations of the Justice Department under Janet Reno, Holder is expected to be able to hit the ground running when he takes office.
