Obama Woos For Hispanic Support In Texas

With the sizable Hispanic population in Texas, US Democratic hopeful Barack Obama is going for their vote in preparation for the Texas contests. In Texas, there will be both a primary and caucus. Recently in Dallas, US Democratic hopeful and co-frontrunner Hillary Clinton had told her supporters to vote twice.

In front of a mostly Hispanic crowd, Obama would talk about the Mexican-American labor leader, Cesar Chavez.

When Cesar Chavez was in the midst of the fight to organize agriculture workers, Dr. King sent him a telegraph and said our cause is the same,” Obama said to the crowd. This would look to be as if Obama is bridging the black community and the Hispanic community.

He added: “What Chavez and King and every other freedom fighter understood is that there is a time, there is moment in the life of every generation when that spirit of hope has to come through.”

Now, Obama would cite the words of Chavez’s motto known as “Si se puede.”

Obama would also talk about his immigration plan. He said that the United States can be a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants. Then, he would attack the stances on immigration by the Republican candidates.

“I don’t like what the Republicans are doing, talking about this as if it is a racial issue, just a southern border issue,” Obama said. He added: “We are going to have to change that.”

Currently, Obama may have a good chance of taking Texas from Clinton due to the rules set by the Texas Democratic Party. There have also been reports that Clinton’s support from the Hispanic community has been slipping.

But nothing is certain until the March 4th contests.
