In the eve of the American elections, Barack Obama suffers a considerable personal loss. The Democratic candidate of the White House announced Monday the death of his grandmother, 86 years old that suffered from cancer. "One of the most important people in his life, had entrusted his spokesman, Robert Gibbs.
"The cornerstone of our family"
"It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother Madelyn Dunham, died peacefully after having fight against cancer," said Barack Obama, in a joint statement with his sister Maya Soetoro-Ng.
"She was the cornerstone of our family," added the candidate and his sister. "She was the person who encouraged us and enabled us realize," they continued.
"She was proud of her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren and left this world knowing that his work on all of us is significant and lasting. Our debt is unlimited, "they said.
On 20 October, the Democratic candidate announced he was suspending his campaign to get near his grandmother. He had traveled to Honolulu, where lived "Toot", which has instituted the American values in his mind and soul ,has said the candidate in an advertisement.
She has been a model for Obama
His maternal grandmother was one of the few family members that were still alive , -Obama has already lost his father, his mother and his maternal grandfather. After the departure of his father in Kenya when it was still a young child, Barack Obama was raised by his mother Stanley Ann Dunham in Indonesia, then by his maternal grandparents in Honolulu, during his adolescence.
