So, what am I going to do today, the day of Barack Obama’s Inauguaration? I am going to wear my 13 year old son’s Obama T-shirt, I am going to buy an American flag, I am going to walk on air, I am going to jump for joy. It is a wonderful feeling to be happy and proud about who your President is.
As a visiting nurse who visits a mainly minority population of limited financial means I have watched the election and nearing inauguaration of Barack Obama bring a palpable uplift to my patients and to the home care workers who work with them.
And so many tell me with such pride a story of their child or grandchild being so enamored of Obama and so excited about the win. And the most elderly will always take a pause and then say,"I never thought I would see a Black man elected President in my lifetime."
Like them I never thought I would see this happen in my lifetime. When I heard Obama’s speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention my first thought was this man should be our president. My second thought was that such a thing would never happen.
The rest is history. Now, even as our country collapses in financial ruin the election of this man has ignited a patriotism and renewed faith in America that has been missing for a long time. Change is coming to America! I am so filled with hope! I am buying a flag!
