DARO,SARAWAK, MALAYSIA: Friday.
For those who made it their business to flip through our dailies these are the times when news about walk-out and insults traded made it sounds like a circus. Yes, our parliament and state legislative assembly also a playground.
We are talking about no less than our parliamentarians and our state representatives. Over here, to be in opposition means to be as vocal as possible. Our parliament is the place where the opposition just disrupt about everything that the government said or told the parliament. When they did this almost everyday including the whole duration that the parliament is in session one wonders, why do they shout about the lack of freedom. Our opposition did not only exploit that freedom everyday [albeit in Parliament] they enjoy abusing it.
For our readers outside Malaysia, we have had our election fair and square since independence. So fair was it that the ruling National Front was defeated in three states as a result of the year 1999 election. The fact is, our opposition parties participate in every elections. Many of their leaders won their respective seats and still they say the election is not fair.
Why do they participate in the election in the first place? Is it just to test the water, so to say? It is like getting married and saying that one’s wife is not beautiful. Well, if she is really not beautiful why bother to marry her after all?
