Kabul: One official has been killed in a suicide attack on the convey of Arsala Khan Jamal, Governor of Eastern Afghan province Khost who survived the attack.
The convey was attacked on Wednesday evening approximately 05:15 Afghan time in the Karwan Saraye area of Khost city. According to Police Chief of the province General Ayoob Khan, three of the governor’s guards and two civilians were slightly injured in the attack.
The provincial officilas later told that a Member of the Provincial Assembly was also injured in the attack who died in hospital.
‘A man in his Surf motor full of explosives detonated near the last vehicle of the convey which was carrying guards. The governor is safe and unhurt’ he added.
Zabiullah Mujahid, the purported spokesman of the Taliban has taken the responsibly of the attack and claimed that at least 10 people including the governor were killed in the attack.
‘The attacker was Abdul Basir, a resident of Khost, who killed at least 10 government officials including Governor Arsala Jamal and Mulvi Khan Mir’ claimed the Mujahid in a telephone call made to media outlets in Pakistan and Afghanistan from an undisclosed place.
Mulvi Khan Mir is a pro-government cleric who gives speeches in favour of current Afghan government on local radios.
Today’s was the third life attempt on the Khost governor in six months. Last year, another Afghan governor Mohammad Hakim Taneewal of the neighbouring Paktiya province was killed along his driver and two guards in a suicide attack by the Taliban militants.
