Officially : 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG

Mercedes-Benz finally came out with an official press release on the slightly revised 2008 SLK 55 AMG, pictures of which we first showed you earlier this week. Apart from the light exterior facelift that included a new front apron, dark-tinted headlamps, larger exterior mirrors, LED indicator repeaters in arrow design and new 18-inch AMG light-alloy wheels the 2008 SLK 55 AMG also gets a revised AMG instrument cluster with new graphics.

Underneath, the only significant change is the new direct steering with variable servo assistance. The newly designed steering rack allows a ratio spread from 15.8:1 to 11.5:1. According to Mercedes-Benz, this makes the roadster more agile and lively on winding roads, as the driver has less to do than before – only 2.16 turns of the wheel are required from lock to lock. Other than that, nothing has changed as the SLK 55 AMG continues to use a 360 HP V8 engine that’s combined with an AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC transmission with steering wheel gearshift paddles.
