Srinagar,December 21, (Scoop News)- Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Saturday underscored the importance of sports and said that games nurture discipline, team spirit, amity and zest to achieve goals, and this quality in sports persons prove of highest significance to them throughout their life.
The Chief Minister said that participation of children in sports from the young age enhances their capacities to excel and sharpen the talent to be best sports person in the country and at the international level. He said Jammu and Kashmir is second to none in sports talent and stressed on properly nurturing children from the school level in various sports activities so that they bring laurels to the state.
Omar said his government has given due attention to the creation of sports facilities in different sports and universalized the access of boys and girls to sports. He said sports-infrastructure including sports fields and indoor facilities, have been created throughout the state. He said welfare of sports persons is also under focus under various schemes in the state. He said Jammu and Kashmir has made its mark in various sports at the National level and sports persons of the state earned first position in various National events. He said government would continue to give due attention to the development of sports and sports persons in the state
The Chief Minister was laying foundation of Rs.11.51 crore swimming pool facility of Olympic status at Gindun Sport and Recreational Complex at Rajbagh near here. He also inaugurated Tennis Court there.
Omar inspected the pace of works on Artificial Synthetic Turf for football at TRC ground. The facility is being created at a cost of over Rs.4.50 crore to help develop football talent and provide modern football playing field for holding high grade football tournaments.
Omar Abdullah also visited Indoor Sports Complex, Tulsibagh where re-modelling of the existing structure is under progress at a cost of Rs.5 crore. The Chief Minister was given details of the constructions works and the progress on these.
It was stated that 80% works of Artificial Synthetic Turf at TRC ground and Indoor Sports Complex Tuslibagh have been completed so far. The Chief Minister interacted with the officials of executing agencies and directed them to ensure completion of the projects within the fixed time frame.
Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather, Minister for Medical Education and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Minister for CAPD, Chowdhary Ramzan and Legislator, Nasir Aslam Wani was also present on the occasion.
