Question:
Is it possible for the "Faithfully Saved" to fall out of "Grace" and sin against the Holy Spirit of God, thus possibly damning themselves to the "Lake of Fire"?
Several days ago I wrote an article titled: "Recognizing Whether You Have Sinned Against God’s Holy Spirit."
One of my readers whom I consider a very knowledgable friend, and a Pastor, lovingly known in circles as [ "Glmclendon" ] commented to me that he believed that : "Once a person is saved, they are saved for ever."
Although I believe this to be right there is a provision that states differently.
I on the other hand, had a different point of view, for I believe that a "Saved Person" can fall from "Grace" and risk losing, or lose their salvation, if they "Choose" to "Sin against the Holy Spirit".
I am not an expert in Theology so I dug out my Handi Dandi Strong’s Reference Concordance and searched until Holy Spirit guided me to the following scriptures.
KJV. HEBREWS: 6: 4-8 As recorded in the Epistle of the Apostle Paul to the Hebrews. One has to pay close attention to the text.
Verses ( 4 & 5)
"For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost (spirit) And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
Here is God’s "But" introduced in verses (6 to 8).
(6) ["If they shall fall away], to renew them again unto Repentance, seeing they crucified, unto themselves the son of God afresh, and put him to open shame."
(7) "For the earth which drinketh in the rain, that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessings from God:"
(8) "But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned."
God always seeks to clarify his intentions and does so in this case with a big "BUT", although thanks to satan we sort of skip right by it. Adam and Eve were duped by satan twisting God’s words, so now God clarifies his words.
As the old adage goes: "Fool me once, shame on you, but fool me twice, shame on me."
These scriptures from the Epistle of Paul to the HEBREWS teaches to us that although normally, "Once Saved always Saved" is applicable in a Christian’s life, we must be ever vigilant of the "King of Lies, the prince of darkness, the murderer, satan", for it is possible for one "Saved" to fall from Christ and God’s Grace and sin against the Holy Spirit.
We also see through these scriptures, that the penalty for such a "Falling from God’s Grace, is considered unrepentable, and subject to damnation in the "Lake of Fire"
Paul tells us this in verses 6 and 8
Let me pose a few questions to get you thinking a little.
Do you open up a news paper and check your Horoscope?
Do you believe in good and bad luck?
Do you believe in lucky or unlucky numbers?
Do you believe in superstitions? ie. black cats, walking under ladders, knocking on wood, etc.
These are all door openers to allow satan to sneak into one’s life.
If you answered yes to even one of these numbers, you are opening a door for satan to enter. Give satan an inch and he’ll take a mile as the saying goes.
It would take a lot of disaster and hardship in most Christian’s lives to turn him away from God and turn him to any other belief, including satan but it is possible. Look at the hardships JOB was made to face by satan. Few humans today and few Christians, could remain faithful to God, if disaster after disaster befell them causing their family and friends to turn on them. To curse God and turn away, is to open a door for satan, that maybe can not be shut, and can doom a person’s fate for all eternity.
Take a look at all of the Christians you may know who are taking medication for depression or this disorder or that disorder, it wouldn’t take much, maybe a slight over dose to drive them over the brink into satan’s hands. And, if the purposefully went off their meds, how sick would they become, and what would they be capable of doing?
I am not saying that this does happen, although it may have happened already with someone, even without our knowing it. It takes but a second for a person, when ill or not thinking clearly to turn from God, and welcome satan.
Like I said, I am no Theologian, no minister, no priest, simply a dutiful child of God seeking to share His truth, and this is God’s truth from God’s Holy Word.
