Online system introduced for Tatkal passports

The Regional Passport Office,Hyderabad has introduced online system for Tatkal scheme now. The system has been introduced for the first time in India, said officials at the office. Until now the online facility was available only for applicants of the general category. Applicants can log on to www.ap.nic.in/passport submit their tatkal passport applications.

Once the applicant registers in the site, they can choose the date and time to submit their applications at the passport office.  The RPO will allow 250 applications per day under Tatkal scheme and 140 under general category. The system will automatically show next date for submission once the day’s quota of 250 applications is completed.

“National Informatics Centre has developed a software for Tatkal applicants. The candidates have to be careful in filling the applications since the same data is used for issuance of passports,” said the Hyderabad regional passport officer, Mr B. Bala Bhaskar. However, applicants who were not aware of the new system were not allowed by the staff to submit their applications. “The online system is good but the officials should have given publicity to the scheme,” said an applicant, Mr M.S. Rao.
