Jammu, November 21(Scoop News)- Jammu Women Credit Cooperative Ltd has hailed the opening of first women bank “Bhartiya Mahila Bank” in the country, with its head office in Mumbai and branches at about a dozen metropolis in the country. The inauguration of the first Women bank by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on 19 November, to synchronise with the 96th birth anniversary of Iron lady, former Prime Minister Indra Gandhi, holds special significance, since madam Gandhi had been the great votary of Women empowerment, towards which end she took many steps during her life and particularly during the period she remained Prime Minister of the country, said Mrs. Kailash Kumari President Jammu Women Credit Cooperative Ltd. She added that the presence of Madam Sonia Gandhi at the inauguration function is equally significant, since it is she who conceived this bold step and took initiative in this regard, Kailash Kumari added. She also hailed the role of former J&K Chief Minister and presently Union Cabinet minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad for his keen interest in opening the bank and also his patronage to Jammu Women Credit Cooperative Ltd.
Addressing the concluding function of All India Cooperative week at KAS Kanoore on border, Mrs Kailash Kumari claimed that Jammu Women Credit Cooperative Ltd had all the infrastructure and requisite to be converted into a Women Cooperative Bank. She made strong pitch for RBI to register the Women Cooperative Credit Ltd and grant it the sanction for opening first Women Cooperative Bank in J&K. She disclosed that they have 35 branches in Jammu division, with 15,300 members and their 36th branch will be opened on December 2 at Doda. Jammu Women Credit Cooperative Ltd has already disbursed loans to the tune of 4.5 crores to its 2700 female members, for setting up income generating and self employments units.
On this occasion 25female loan holders from the Jammu Women Credit Cooperative Ltd, who have since paid back their loans in easy instalments and are running successful business ventures, were honoured and facilitated by the Chief Guest at the function Gulchain Singh Charak a former J&K cabinet minister and the guest of honour Janak Raj Gupta former MP.
